It's just the original game with New Super Luigi U included, which, from what I've heard, came with some copies of the Wii U version, so it's not even that "Deluxe" to begin with. While that's fine on its own, what isn't is the fact that Nintendo is calling this "Deluxe" when there's really nothing added to the original whatsoever, while also charging $60. You see, the main problem isn't with the game itself, but the circumstances surrounding it, as there's no beating around the bush. It's a great time with the right mindset, and one that I highly recommend, especially if you are a Mario fan.
Overall, unless the recycled assets from previous NSMB games turns you off, there's nothing inherently wrong with the game itself. Certainly a power up I hope to see in every future 2D Mario game from now on. The super acorn is a fantastic addition as well, as it makes way for some excellent level design, as well as moves that makes the mustachioed plumber fun to control when airborne. The inclusion of the world map, first seen in Super Mario World, helps give this game a better sense of freedom than most 2D Mario games beforehand. While one could argue that it doesn't do enough to really stand out from the collection, with a game this polished and this well made, it almost doesn't have to. Excellent level design from start to finish, colorful and crisp visuals that are mostly adorable, charming and catchy music, bosses that, while easy, are still fun, and overall excellent Structure all made this game a knock out of the park for me in terms of 2D Mario.
After picking this up, I was very pleased with what this game offered. Walmart and Target also have a selection of Switch games on sale for as low as $14 for their Cyber Monday events.(I give this a 7.5/10, but 8 is fine) As someone who's both a fan of 2D Mario, as well as someone who missed out on the Wii U, I was excited for this release and then some, seeing how I at least have a Nintendo Switch.
